The Appalachian Resource Conservation and Development (ARCD) hosted the first of their 9-part series field school on November 19. Carter, Washington, Greene, Sullivan, Jefferson, and Johnson County were all represented at the class, which included a great group of folks with varied farm experience and infrastructure. There were several with family farms or acreage who have been doing something but want more ideas or more profitability, who are young and have no acreage, or retired and want a next adventure. The class included participants of all ages. A sponsor gave five scholarships for Veterans. After email promotion through the Veterans hospital and county Veterans affairs office the field school ended up with four. They also did Spanish announcements through the latino music program on public radio to connect to a broad audience.
